The assistant to the Vice Chancellor is called a Deputy Vice-Chancellor ( DVC). These are sometimes teaching academics with value added responsibilities covering the spectrum of Administration, Research and Development, Corporate Governance, Academic and Education Affairs.

In some interpretations, the term Deputy Vice Chancellor is sometimes used to denote a senior executive position equivalent to deans of colleges. In the case of  Borneo Open International University, the term “Dean” has been reserved for academic administrative positions involving programs and students.

Each independent Institute of the BOIU would have a Associate Vice-Chancellor and a Dean reporting directly to the DVC of the respective specializations. They are located in many parts of the world and would remain as the head of each Institute. This is a nominated position of honour.
